Inspiration finally knocked on my door during English today. It was due to the current historic speech that we are studying that I derived with the focus of the post today.

Humans. Grr. Why da heck do we call ourselves the "most intelligent race and specie" if we are killing ourselves ever so slowly? Why the torture? Why the advancements that would eventually eliminate our existance?

1. Environmental damage
Gobal warming, ozone depletion, acid rain, algae bloom... the list is endless. Even just everyday things that people do- chucking non-biodegradable rubbish on the ground, driving cars around burning fossil fuels, building double exhaust pipes for the "kewlness" of it... just.. just whatever. AND we can't stop using fossil fuels because right now petroleum company earning money BIG time... and its not like da industry is juz gonna collapse and die tomorrow. Why can't we treat our home with a little more respect? If only everyone can see the big picture, and think about their actions. Why break your house with your own hands when you have no where else to go?

2. Technology advancement
To a certain degree, yes, it is fantastic. It does make our lives a lot easier and comfortable. A lot of point 1 is based around these creations though, which in the long term, will come back and get us. I'm not saying I dislike technology, but things were just simply created under the circumstance of not knowing the potential damage that could be made to our home. It is a bit late to say this now... but wouldn't it be wise to start thinking of more environmentally friendly technology that could be utilized now to save ourselves? Also, because of all the great medicines that can be manufactured now, our race is not dying at the normal rate. This is why super-power bacteria (e.g. SARS) break out nowadays quite frequently- to perform its duty of regulating the proper cycle of life.

3. Selfish desires
Humans are gifted with the opportunity to feel, and to think, with that. Power hungry, unfortunately, comes into the picture. Wars, invasions, massacres; jealousy, hate; opression, domination... all different forms of this "power-hungriness". It's alright to feel jealousy, as long as it's not harming another directly. It's all right to want to dominate, as long as it's not harming another directly. It's all right to hate, as long as it's not harming another directly. We can tell others about what we feel, but as long as it doesn't cause too much hurt to another, it's OK. The world though, does not work that way. Various reasons for war, for discriminations... all most probably for the one summarized reason- power. Animals do sometimes hurt one another for terrtitory security... but everything is based upon survival in the end. Ours? Not necessarily.

If only humans could see what's happening, or maybe, admit to what is happening, this, now, would be so much more different.
